REMEMBER The National Indoor Tournament ("NIT") is held March 5-7, 2010 @Virginia Beach Convention Center and is a VERY competitive, college recruiting tournament. In order to be competitive and considered for Recruitment the mandatory practices are vital to our TEAM's success. We can't achieve our 'goals' if we are not prepared. Before we can get to Virginia each team needs to qualify - generally the top 4 teams at each qualifier location move on to the NIT. Indoor is played on a floor surface - often rubberized, qualifiers are held on basketball court or rubberized surface, playing area includes balls off the boards on the side. Indoor is faster and you need different equipment - you M U S T have an INDOOR stick (USFHA REQUIRED), valid USFHA membership card, mouthguard (bring several), proper shoes (non-cleat/non-slide) (USFHA REQUIRED), padded fingerless gloves are HIGHLY recommended, NO cage goggles and NO jewelry! See the "ALWAYS in your FH Bag Checklist" !! Familiarize yourself NOW with the Indoor Rules (THESE HAVE BEEN UPDATED) and the USField Hockey Indoor Site and some are highlighted here:
INDOOR PLAYING RULES
1. Ball may not leave playing surface unless it is a shot on goal. ie, if the ball bobbles even the slightest when you receive, it will be other teams ball.
2. All field players are back on defensive corners.
3. NO hitting allowed in any situation!
4. We are playing self-pass rules
5. UNINTENTIONAL balls off endline are awarded a defensive free hit out! Intentional balls off endline are awarded a corner if inside circle.
6. WATER ONLY at games.
USFHA CARD: If you have not provided us with a COPY OF the Player's current/valid USFHA membership CARD (we need an actual COPY OF THE CARD !!) please bring it with you to practice. It will not be returned so ensure it is a copy for us to keep. Can't compete in January Qualifier without this. Must be valid through March, 2010 !!! You MUST be a member of USA Field Hockey to participate in USFHA sanctioned events.
There will generally be a field hockey vendor (Penn-Monto at Mt. Holyoke) selling its wares at the Qualifier and Food will be available throughout the day (confirmed for Mt. Holyoke). Games generally begin at 8am (teams must be on location by 7am), plan on the entire day, we will not have a team schedule until the day of the event.
